Russia — An ecological emergency situation regime has been introduced in Irkutsk suburbia owing to eleven big foci of forest fires that are raging there on an aggregate area of 1,373 hectares, an official at the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) department for Irkutsk Region told Itar-Tass on Thursday. There is probability that other big forest fires will emerge and may spread over to populated areas.
In all, 31 forest fires have been recorded in the Region on an area of 1,935 hectares. Fire-fighting efforts are involving RME mobile parties, as well as a BE-200 amphibian plane and specially equipped helicopters.
