Australia — FAMILY FIRST MLC Robert Brokenshire has criticised the Labor Government for political correctness putting communities at risk for bushfire.
He said the Government was holding up the creation of a new State Bushfire Co-ordination Committee, more than seven months after the enacting legislation was passed.
We passed legislation on September 24 in the Upper House and here we are still waiting for the Committee to be formed, he said.
Why? Because the Office for the Status for Women is unhappy there arent enough women nominated.
Mr Brokenshire asked Status of Women Minister Gail Gago in Parliament yesterday about the issue, and he said her response was a denial of any delay.
My information is that the process has been held up for weeks not just over 24 hours as the Minister asserted yesterday because of the gender issue,” he said.
Family First is quite happy for the Committee to be all-women just get the Committee formed so we are ready for bushfire season. Id rather political correctness be torched not homes and bushland.
