Ireland — A major bog fire in the Banada/ Tubbercurry area which started yesterday afternoon has been brought under control.
Fire crews from Sligo, Tubbercurry, Charlestown and Swinford were all called to the scene of the fire, which spread over hundreds of acres.
There was a fear last night that a number of homes were in danger as the blaze spread, however it was brought under control with no injuries or evacuation.
The fire was one of a number in the region over the course of the weekend.
Communications Officer with Sligo County Council Kevin Colreavy said the fire service expect to vacate the area shortly.
