USA —   Gwinnett County Firefighters responded on Monday, April 5, 2010, at 1:25 p.m. to a report of a brush fire in the area of Windale Drive off Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville.

The fire originated from an outdoor fire that was being conducted behind a house on Lamancha Drive. The property owner (adult female) was burning a pile of leaves in her backyard when the fire got out of control and began to spread. “The woman sustained moderate burns as she tried to escape the flames. She was conscious, alert, and breathing at the scene and was transported by ambulance to Grady Hospital in Atlanta,” said Captain Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services. The woman was inside on a porch and made firefighters aware of her injuries as they battled the fire. She had gone inside the house to cool the burns with water from the tub.
