Spain —    The Prosecutors’ Office in Málaga has requested an 11 month prison sentence and a 3,600 € fine for a British man who is accused of starting a forest fire though negligence.

He is blamed for a fire which affected 1.4 hectares after he cleared some of his land by starting a fire in the Los Fuentes/Cortijo Martínez area of Málaga city. 1.15 hectares of the land affected had recently been re-planted.

The case dates back to October 2009 and the Briton also faces meeting the cost of putting out the fire, which the Environmental Department of the Junta de Andalucía has put at 10,729 €.
