India —    A massive forest fire that broke out in the Kumaon Hills of Uttarakhand on Monday has destroyed vast stretches of forest.

The smoke emanating from the fire has caused breathing problems for people residing in the villages near the forest range.

The Deputy Conservator of Forests based at Ramnagar rushed with forest rangers and other staff to the spot of the fire.
“Fire in mountain ranges disrupts normal life. Forest life, wide animals, medicine, flora and fauna have been destroyed in blaze. The rising smoke cause pollution and also raise temperature dramatically,” said P K Patro, Divisional Forest Officer, Tarai Range.

The forest rangers with the assistance of locals are engaged in measures to douse the fire.
The cause of this massive fire is yet to be ascertained.
