Fire destroys old forest in Quang Tri

Vietnam — A total of 17ha of forest was destroyed in a fire in Huong Loc Commune, Huong Hoa District, central Quang Tri Province on Wednesday.
The four-hour blaze covered a large area of old natural forest that was home to many rare and valuable trees, said the deputy chairman of the communal People’s Committee, Ho Van May, yesterday.
The forest guards said that the blaze started when a Van Kieu ethnic man burnt off land for cultivation and failed to control the fire.
