Philippines — The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) conducted an orientation on forest fire prevention and control village officials in the east district of this city recently.
ZCWD general manager Chito Vasquez said the orientation is part of the observance of March as Fire Prevention Month that ended Wednesday.
Vasquez said the activity was aimed to equip them with the knowledge on how to prevent the occurrence of forest fires in their respective areas during drought season.
It was learned that the activity was held in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in this city.
Village officials and barangay tanods (village watchmen) coming from the villages of Tolosa, Lumayang, Upper Bunguiao, Salaan, Dulian, and Pasonanca, together with DENR foresters covering the east and west district, watershed guards and forestry assistants from the ZCWD, attended the training and orientation which was recently held at the ZCWD Coco Pavilion in Pasonanca, this city.
The activity was in line with ZCWDs mission to actively collaborate with other government and private agencies in the protection and preservation of the Pasonanca Watershed and other watershed areas in this city, Vasquez explained.
