Japan —  Three firefighters have perished in the line of duty in the Higashi-Fuji training area in Japan. A field was burning and three were trapped by the flames and could not be rescued in time.

As the burn was taking place winds suddenly picked up and trapped the firefighters. All three were in their thirties and their community is grieving this morning.

The area is used by the Japanese Ground Defense Forces and US military to conduct training.

Japanese authorities are running an investigation.
