Jhum fires kill two in Mizoram

India — Two brothers, Lalrinmuana and Lalrinchhana of Theiriat locality in Lunglei were charred to death when they burnt their jhum on March 10.
According to information received from Lunglei Police Station, the two brothers set out to burn their jhums and could not return home on the night. The search party found their bodies in the jhum area only on Thursday morning.
After post mortem examination in Lunglei Civil Hospital, the dead bodies were handed over to their relatives for funeral service which will be held tomorrow. Meanwhile report on forest fire sparked by burning of jhums continues to pour in. In Saiha District, fire razing forest resources can be seen from Saiha in various places.
No one has been arrested so far.
In Aizawl, the Police Fire Tender were sent to Sakawrtuichhun area to put out the fire which was engulfing the Industrial Growth Centre on Thursday. In Darlung, Bawlte and Sabual area, forest fire continues to ravage vast cultivable area despite attempts made by the villagers to extinguish the fire in several places.
