‘Need to keep forests safe from fire’

India — LUCKNOW: The state will observe this week (from February 1 to 7) as `Forest Fire Safety Week’. The state is set to conserve and increase the existing tree and forest cover, said chief minister Mayawati in her public message. The chief minister said it is welcome news that forest cover is increasing in the state. The week is being observed to save forests from fire.

There is a need to keep the forests safe against fire so that their quality and regeneration power could be maintained. Besides, it is must to conserve wildlife and to maintain the productivity of the agricultural land in the vicinity of the forests.

The forest minister, Fateh Bahadur Singh said that forest fire affects biodiversity. It destroys the natural habitat of the wild animals and causes them to move out of forest area. Hence, it is of utmost importance to safeguard forests from fire.
