Malaysia — About 700 acres of the Klias forest reserve were burned in a series of forest fires in Beaufort since last week.
Starting last Feb. 10, firefighters have been struggling to put out forest fires at the forest reserve area in Kg Luagan Sector B, as well as peat and plantation fires in several villages in the district.
Beaufort Information Officer, Malina Jamarin, however, said firemen managed to douse the fire at the forest reserve area on Feb 15, also thanks to help from the Forestry Department.
Among the other big fires was at Kg Nukahan in Kuala Penyu where about 5, 000 acres of land were burned in bush, peat and plantation fires, also starting from Feb 10. Although firefighters also struggled to douse the flames, the fire eventually died on its own a day later, she added.
