Canada — Cabins in the Grand Lake and Wilburn Bay areas have been evacuated as provincial forestry crews battle a fire in eastern Labrador.

The fire broke out Saturday night and is concentrated in the Gosling Lake area near Northwest River.

The road between Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Northwest River was closed early Sunday morning but has since been reopened.

Provincial forestry officer Dan Myles said vehicles are being escorted through the area about 15 kilometres from Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Myles said that by Sunday morning the fire was two kilometres wide by three kilometres long.

Four helicopters and two waterbombers are assisting crews on the ground.
