One person was injured in a brush fire Thursday in a wooded area at the Village Park, police said.
The fire was reported 12:30 p.m. near the waterfalls in the back of the park. It spread over a large area and took about 90 minutes to extinguish, said Fire Chief Ralph Millen.
The location was inaccessible to fire trucks, he said. The department used its specialized all-terrain vehicle and “Indian packs” — portable hand pumps holding about three gallons of water — to fight the blaze.
A hiker trying to fight the fire was burned in the incident, he said. Police said he was taken by Mercy Flight for medical attention.
Identity was not available at press time this morning. Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
