Cuba — A forest fire in the eastern province of Camaguey has affected 7,000 hectares (17,287 acres) in one of Cubas main coniferous reserves, state media reported.
The fire, which is of large size, started Thursday afternoon and several firefighting units are trying to contain it, the official AIN news agency reported.
The blaze has a 12-kilometer (7.5-mile) front in one of the islands largest pine and eucalyptus reserves, Camagueys Provincial Defense Council said.
Environmental conditions are favorable for the fire to advance, since there is much dry material in the plantations, low humidity due to the dry season and relatively strong winds, AIN said.
