Australia — The last forest fire in the Australian state of Victoria has been brought under control. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the flames in the Wilsons Promontory national park thanks to the fall of rain and a drop in temperature.

The southeast of the country has been ravaged by forest fires in recent months. More than 200 people were killed and thousands of houses destroyed by the flames.

In Melbourne and Sydney, befit concerts have been held for the victims of the fires. Stars who appeared included Kylie Minogue, Olivia Newton-John and Barry Gibb.
