Australia — Many Victorians who lost their homes on Black Saturday are still not being allowed onto their properties.
There are still people missing, assumed dead, and the Victorian Coroner has closed badly burnt areas until a final death toll can be announced.
Chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority, Christine Nixon, says residents will be allowed onto their blocks in Flowerdale and Kinglake in the next few days, but the most severely-hit areas will remain closed for several more weeks.
“(In) Marysville, which is obviously the most devastated town, we believe from the police as I understand it that it won’t be until the 20th of this month that they’ll be able to go back in and spend some time on their land, I think.”
