India — Fresh fires of varying intensities have occurred in the core areas of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve during the past 48 hours.

Last week, fires had occurred at several places inside the Nagarahole and Bandipur National Parks of Karnataka, the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve of Tamil Nadu and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary of Kerala.

This time, satellite data show thermal anomalies indicating fires at a few places in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and Bandipur National Park.

One of the fires is located on the Tamil Nadu side, close to its common border point with Kerala and Karnataka.

Fires also broke out in the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala on Wednesday. This is yet to be put out.
