Indonesia/Australia — Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says his country is donating $1 million towards reconstruction in Victoria, as well as sending a forensic team to help identify bushfire victims.

In a letter to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Mr Yudhoyono said that “Australia’s success is also Indonesia’s success and its misery is also Indonesia’s misery”.

He said Indonesia would send a police forensic team to help identify bushfire victims and donate $1 million towards rebuilding schools in Victoria.

“The funds are a token of Indonesia’s solidarity with Australia”, added Presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal.

He said the contribution was in keeping with the disaster management partnership galvanised by 2004’s tsunami and the $1 billion Australia contributed to Aceh’s reconstruction.

It has been confirmed

Victorian police says it may take a year to fully investigate the deadly weekend fires in the state.
