Control rooms for preventing forest fire in Sikkim

Gangtok, India — In a bid to control the outbreak of forest fires in Sikkim, the forest department has set up a control room at its headquarters and also in the districts to seek timely information from the general public about occurrence of such incidents, an official release said on Tuesday.
The general public was asked to assist the forest field staff in case of a fire outbreak around their locality in view of the prevailing dry spell, the release said.
The fire preventive measures are to be adopted in case of outbreak of fire and the forest officials are to be notified immediately, it said.
There have been 11 incidents of forest fire in the State this year alone razing down 153 hectare forest land, a forest official said adding in this week alone two forest fires took place at Singtam and Thegu in East District.
