Australia — Many Canberrans will pause today and remember how the city faced its darkest day during the bushfires six years ago.
On January 18, 2003, four people died in the fire storm and almost 500 homes were lost.
Hardest hit were residents in Duffy, Chapman, Holder, Kambah, Curtin, Rivett, Weston, Lyons and Torrens.
Fire crews are urging people living near bushland to make sure properties are cleared of any material that could threaten homes in the event of a bushfire.
