USA — California is suing Southern California Edison and two property owners to recover the $7.4 million spent to fight a 2006 wildfire that burned five homes.

The attorney general filed the negligence suit late last month in Ventura County against Edison, Caprock Inc., Grimes Rock Inc. and a property caretaker.

The suit claims Edison and the others failed to maintain power lines that fell during Santa Ana winds, causing two fires that merged to burn 13,600 acres of land in the Moorpark area.

The suit was filed on behalf of the state and Ventura County fire departments.

An Edison spokesman said the company wouldn’t comment on the lawsuit.
