Australia –A $2.2 million advertising blitz will start next week warning Victorians about the bushfire threat and how to protect their homes.

The campaign will run until April and comes as authorities predict a horror bushfire season this summer.

“We are seeing longer, drier summers, and earlier starts to fire seasons which is why it is critical all Victorians have a fire plan,” Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron said on Tuesday.

“While fire is still a real threat to remote and rural parts of Victoria, the risk to towns and urban fringe areas must not be underestimated.”

About 100,000 firefighters and volunteers are on standby this fire season.

Fire chiefs have warned that record drought, along with a forecast long, hot summer, is a disastrous recipe for bushfires.

The advertising campaign – on billboards, television and radio – will begin on Monday.

It will target regional and rural communities, those living on the urban fringe, farmers and tourists travelling to high-risk fire areas.
