California, USA — Local fire victims can qualify for federal aid now that President Bush has declared that a major disaster exists in Southern Californias fire-ravaged areas.
Federal funding is available to residents in the burned-out areas, including Riverside and Orange counties. Residents and business owners can apply for assistance online at www.fema.gov.
Disaster loans to homeowners are as low as 2.7 percent with terms up to 30 years.
Grants include help for temporary housing, home repairs and low-cost loans for uninsured property loss, as well as other programs.
California’s lawmakers sent a letter to President George W. Bush, requesting the assistance.
San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties are included in the declaration.
Bushs declaration came hours after the last of the evacuees were allowed back into their homes Tuesday.
