Australia — Fire authorities have boosted resources in Colac because of the high fire danger in the Otway Ranges.

Gary White from the Department of Sustainability and Environment says the Otways are at a high risk of bushfire again this year.

He says there will be 34 firefighting helicopters and planes across the state and one will be based at Colac.

“They’re putting the large Sikorsky that was at Bacchus Marsh last season at Colac, which will be great for the Otways and that is exceptionally dry this year and the helicopter that was at the Otways will be positioned in Ballarat this season,” he said.

“We’ve changed where the normal bases are for those aircraft … to cover this bad season.”
