USA — More than 100 families have settled with an electric company over a devastating January 2006 wildfire.
Dallas-based Oncor was accused of failing to repair a pole where power lines touched — and allegedly sparked the blaze.
The fire nearly destroyed the North Texas town of Ringgold.
The last of the five lawsuit settlements was finalized this week, following deals with 100 families who did not sue Oncor.
Attorney Bill Altman of Wichita Falls says confidentially agreements bar him from revealing the total settlements — but that it’s “substantially” more than $5 million.
Oncor declined comment on specifics of the settlements.
Spokeswoman Carol Peters told The Associated Press that Oncor continues to dispute that it was responsible for the Ringgold fire. But she says Oncor has attempted to resolve differences with property owners.
