Vietnam — The number of fires and fire-related fatalities have dropped nationwide, according to the National Fire Department. In the first nine months of this year, 1,262 fires broke out. Forest fires dropped by 69 per cent to 136 cases. Non-forest fires reduced by 1.1 per cent from the same period last year. Twenty people died in fires so far this year, two fewer than last year. Fires caused VND445 billion in property damage, and destroyed 1,000ha of forests.
