Canada — There’s a new monument in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains to honour individuals who have died fighting forest fires in Alberta.
The monument was unveiled Saturday during a special ceremony in Hinton.
About 150 family members, friends and staff from the Sustainable Resources Department gathered at the site.
A walking trail leading to the monument is lined with marker stones identifying each of the 21 wildland firefighters who has died on the job since 1944.
