Australia — An investigation is underway into a helicopter crash in Western Australia, which has left four people dead.

The Heliworks helicopter was one of three scenic flights which took off from the airport close to the Bungle Bungle Range in the Purnululu national park Sunday afternoon.

On board were the 40-year-old male pilot, a 19-year-old woman and two 20-year-old women.

Police say the crash occurred 12 kilometres from the airstrip.

All four died at the accident site near the Echidna Chasm.

The crash sparked a bushfire which police say doesn’t represent a threat to campers or others in the area.

The airport has been closed and the site has been cordoned off.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is investigating the accident.
