USA — The San Diego County Office of Emergency Services is trying to help county residents prevent and prepare for wildfires.

As part of National Preparedness Month, the agency is mailing a wildfire awareness guide to county residents who live in areas with a high wildfire risk. The guide contains information about how to safeguard homes, how to get a wildfire risk assessment and how to obtain fire codes from local agencies.

Free wildfire and disaster preparedness community workshops are scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Imperial Beach Library, 810 Imperial Beach Blvd.; from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Descanso Library, 9545 River Drive; from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive; and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rancho San Diego Library, 11555 Via Rancho San Diego.
