Georgia — Forty hectares of forest in the Ateni Gorge are on fire. Intensive measures are under way to extinguish the blaze. The Environment Ministry has informed Kavkas-Press that it is very difficult to contain the fire only through the efforts of the local population and with only basic equipment.
“We are doing our best to extinguish the fire, but if the situation worsens, we will have to call in aircraft,” Deputy Environment Minister Lado Gegelashvili said.
Forest fires in the Ateni Gorge, as well as in the Borjomi- Kharagauli national park were caused by incendiary bombs dropped by Russian helicopters.
