South Africa — The north eastern suburbs of Johannesburg were without power, following a large veld fire close to transmission lines connected to substations, City Power said.
Spokesman Louis Pieterse said it was unknown what caused the fire which started at about 2:30 pm.
“Our technicians are on site waiting for everything to clear and will start restoring power immediately.”
The suburbs affected by power cuts were Kensington, Observatory, Norwood, Rosebank, Melrose and surrounding areas, Pieterse said.
There were traffic delays along Louis Botha Avenue due to traffic lights not functioning.
