Accra, Ghana — The Brong Ahafo region has recordeda considerable increase in fire outbreaks in the second quarter of this year ascompared to the second quarter of last year with bush fires being prevalent. Atotal of 30 fire outbreaks were recorded this year as against 27 last year.
The Regional Municipal Fire Officer Kwasi Baffour-Awuah who disclosed this in aninterview said the increase is the result of the refusal of people to observefire prevention measures and the practice of slash and burn arming method.
He also mentioned improper wiring of buildings and illegal electricalconnections as some causes of fire outbreak and called on the police to speed upthe prosecution of bush fire offenders and those who contravene environmentalprotection by-laws.
He appealed to the Ghana Water Company to provide fire hydrants at advantagepoints to ensure the smooth operation of the service.
