KILLEEN, Texas (AP) — A wildfire is burning in Killeen, Texas, and authorities have evacuated an elementary school and about 100 homes.

The hundreds of children and staff were moved from Reeces Creek Elementary School to an events center in the central Texas town.

The Killeen Daily Herald reports at least 75 acres have burned. KWTX-TV reports some residents of south Killeen are using garden hoses to wet down buildings.

The National Weather Service says temperatures were in the mid-90s Tuesday afternoon and wind gusts were near 20 mph.
