Nepal — Sundar Community Forest Users Group of Chaukitole, Hetauda, Nepal conducted a controlled burning in their forest in 23 April 2008. The burning practice was successfully conducted in half hectare area. The users group also conducted controlled burning along the tract of existing fire lines about five meter width of both sides and 500 meter length.
The users group chairman Mr. Buddhi Paudel said it reduces the uncontrolled big fire. Moreover, it favours sal regeneration by reducing unwanted weeds. He added the controlled burning along the fire line reduced accidental fires and stop the uncontrolled fires coming from adjoining forest.
The users group secretary Mr. Jhalak Gautam said the burning is as per the action plan prepared during the participatory training programme supported by German Foreign Office/ Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC) last year.
