India — Forest fire has engulfed seven ranges including five in Satkosia wildlife sanctuary in the district destroying several plants species and affecting wildlife.
The affected ranges in Satkosia are Purunakote, Tikarapra, Pampasar, Raigoda and Zillinda where fire is spreading menacingly towards more areas. Satkosia was recently declared as a tiger reserve. Expressing concern over the spread of forest fire in Satkosia and other parts of the forest, environmentalists questioned effectiveness of fire fighting mechanisms.
Reports of forest fire were also received from Madhapur range under Athmallik division and Purunagarh range under Angul division. Divisional Forest Officer, S.S. Mishra said steps are being taken to control the fire.
