Jhapa, Nepal — Above 1,300 out of 1500 huts of Goldhap Bhutanese RefugeeCamp of Jhapa district have been burnt down in a fire that broke out on March01, 2008 evening which injured seven refugees. Over 10,000 refugees are directlyaffected. All the refugees are now scattered and taking shelter at school,nearby residents and camps.
Red Cross went immediately to the camp with two ambulances and carried fiveinjured persons to local hospital. At the moment Red Cross volunteers, stafffrom district chapter, sub-chapter including 9 district and national leveltrained persons and 16 volunteers of the Red Cross Action Team (RCAT) weremobilized for rescue, relief, first aids and ambulance services. The chapter iscoordinating with the ICRC for supply and distribution of non food relief item (NFRI).
Nepal Red Cross in the support of the ICRC has distributed non food reliefitems such as blanket, utensil, readymade cloth, jeans, sari, sweater, plasticbucket, etc. equivalent to NRS 3 million to the affected people.
Nepal Government has managed for temporary shelter and WFP for food. Otherlocal humanitarian organizations are providing support on their own.
One emergency meeting of District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) inpresence of Home Minister, Krishna Sitaula had decided to provide all theemergency relief materials through DDMC.
NRCS National Headquarters has dispatched Non-Food Items for 200 families inSaptari districts for the distribution to the affected by fire.
