Texas, USA — Over 26,000 acres charred. A University of Texas at Brownsvillestudent is working to help those affected by the massive wildfire in HidalgoCounty.
“The whole time I was just looking around my house and wondering… howI would feel if my house burned down or like….all my memories, all mytreasures,” says Veronica Lopez.
She tells us her heart goes out to those who lost their homes. So Lopez hastaken it upon herself to look for ways to raise money for relief efforts.
The 19-year-old has asked campus organizations for help, talked to the firedepartment, police, and school administrators.
Pedro Trejo, an advisor for the sport officials’ organization, is alsolending a hand.
He says, “I know that Edinburg North is providing a shelter and I’m gladfor that. Let’s see if we could find some more people out there to help. Theycould email me… so if they want to donate money or clothes, food or beds, orso forth.”
