New Zealand — The scrub fire on the Port Hills has spread into a pineplantation.

The blaze started 1.15am and eight fire crews and two helicopters withmonsoon buckets are trying to bring it under control. Part of the Summit Rd isclosed.

Selwyn Rural Fire Officer Wilson Brown says crews are considering whether itis possible to clear a control line to stop the fire spreading further. Smokecan be seen from Christchurch city.
