Indonesia — The Environment Ministry is now also dealing with forest and land fires in association with the National Aviation and Space Agency (Lapan) under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan on Wednesday. The MoU was signed by Environment Minister Rachmat Witoelar and Lapan`s deputy for remote sensing Nur Hidayat.

“Under the cooperation, the two sides will be locating hot spots, which have been the main causes of forest and land fires in Indonesia,” Rachmat said. He said efforts at dealing with forest and land fires in Indonesia have become very effective these days.

In the meantime, in dealing with forest and land fires, it is also highly recommended to involve the population in general, he added.
