Australia — Smoke bellowing above Jervis Bay on Saturday brought back memories of the Shoalhaven Christmas 2001 bushfire crisis.

However, it was a hazard reduction burn – not a bushfire.

The hazard reduction burn covered 10 hectares in the Myola area and involved 26 Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers.

The object of the burn was to assist in the protection of homes and properties in the Myola and Callala Beach areas.

There was also another burn, as part of the RFS’s fire mitigation programme, in Cunjurong Point on Friday and covered eight hectares with 20 volunteers involved.
