Australia — New figures show more than three-quarters of bushfires inWestern Australia are deliberately lit.

The study compiled by the Australian Institute of Criminology shows thatnationally 69 per cent of fires are deliberately lit.

That figure rises to 76-point-seven percent in WA.

Phil Cribb from the Fire and Emergency Services Authority says he is notsurprised by the result.

“The number certainly is up there, but I can assure the community thatwe’ve been doing lots of good work to tackle these at a number of levels, hesaid.”
