Jamaica — The estimate of damage suffered by farmers following Tuesday’smassive bush fire in St. Elizabeth should be known by Thursday.

Agriculture Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said the Rural Agricultural Development Authority is to present a report on the losses incurred by farmers.

Dr. Tufton is to tour the affected areas at 3 Thursday afternoon.

In the meantime, Senior Deputy Superintendent in Charge of the St. Elizabeth Fire Department Homer Morris said investigations were still being carried out into reports that the blaze was started by the police.

“It is alleged that the fire was started by the supportive staff of the police Narcotics Division and we have the name of (a witness) who says she is willing to give such evidence. I know that the police is investigating this matter likewise,” he said.
