Crewe, UK — Fire chiefs have called on landowners to cooperate after a controlled burning incident went wrong in Sandycroft.

Deeside firefighters were called to the rear of The Circuit Karting Park on the industrial estate at 12.28pm on Monday.

The crew used one hose reel and beaters to extinguish the fire, which is thought to have been caused by controlled burning which got out of hand.

Flintshire Fire Safety Inspecting Officer Ian Finlay, said: “Fires like this place tremendous pressure on resources, with firefighters tied up for a considerable length of time trying to bring these fires under control.

“Over recent weeks we’ve experienced many gorse and heath fires and have seen a number of incidents where controlled burning by landowners has got out of control and affected large areas of gorse and bracken.

“Quite often these fires happen in areas where access is extremely difficult and water supply is limited.”

He urged landowners to inform fire service control on 01745 343800 of the location of the intended burn.

“This will prevent time and resources being wasted by the fire service attending a controlled fire”, he said.
