Fire Consumes Three-Year-Old Boy in Sierra Leone

Sierra leone — A fire disaster has left a three-year-old boy dead in Kanuta Village, Koinadugu District according to eye witness report. On Sunday the 24th February 2008, a local of that village who is currently in Freetown, John U Samura authoritatively told our reporter that Kanuta Village, located some 39 mile away from the district headquarter town of Kabala was gutted by fire past Friday the 22nd of February. He said the fire started from a near by bush late in morning when most people had gone to their various farms.

The little boy was reportedly left alone at home as he complained ill that fateful morning. Whilst his parents were away, he decided to get a siesta indoors after closing the door behind him. The house, with a thatched roof according to John was located very close to the bush so it became one of the early targets of the bush fire. Before the unfortunate could realize himself, the fire had overcome him. He burnt down to ashes before his parents could return form the farm.

In similar development according to the same source, another village called Kindoya in Sulima Chiefdom of the same district was also burnt down on Sunday the 24th of February. In all he said about 130 houses were raised to the ground in the two villages destroying properties worth of millions of Leones. The incident has also left over two hundred people homeless in the two localities.
