Australia — Authorities have warned residents on the outskirts of Perth to prepare for a bushfire which fire crews are battling to control.
The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) said residents in Forrestdale, on Perth’s south-eastern outskirts, should close windows and doors and turn off evaporative air-conditioners because of the threat of ember attacks.
“As the fire is not contained, residents who have not made the necessary preparations or believe they may not cope with the stress of the fire will improve their safety by going now,” FESA said in a statement.
Two helicopters plus a Fire King plane had been deployed to protect crews and property from the blaze, FESA said.
Nicholson Road has been closed between Armadale and Rowley Roads.
Motorists should avoid the area but should be aware of firefighters operating on roadways and drive slowly with their headlights on.
