Australia — Three bushfires burning in Gooseberry Hill in eastern Perth have been brought under control, but residents should remain vigilant in case the situation changes.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority of WA (FESA) says crews are working to consolidate containment lines and will spend the rest of the night mopping up and monitoring the area.

Forty-five firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Service and the Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade have been at the scene since 10.50pm (WDT), FESA says.

The three fires merged and it is estimated 15 hectares of bushland was burnt.

Two roads will be closed during the early hours of Sunday morning – John Farrant Drive between Ridge Hill Drive and Grange Crescent, and Lascelles Parade between Tella Street and Ridge Hill Drive.

FESA says motorists should take extreme caution when driving through smoke and low visibility and be aware of firefighters in the area.

People with respiratory conditions should contact their doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222, while the public should report suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
