Australia — Bushfires have caused the closure of the Great Eastern Highway in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
The fires – three north of the highway and one south of the highway, 50km west of Coolgardie – were caused by lightning strikes earlier this afternoon.
Additional fire crews, incident management staff and resources were being brought in from the south-west and wheatbelt to help fight the fires at Woodlands National Park.
Heavy machinery also had been dispatched to put in containment lines.
The Main Roads department said the highway would be closed to all traffic from Southern Cross to Coolgardie. Drivers should seek alternative routes.
