A bushfire in Perth’s southern suburbs, which burnt more than 800 acres overnight, has finally been cleared.

Firefighters battled the blaze, near Anketell Road, east of Kwinana Beach, for most of the night.

A Fire and Emergency Services Authority spokesman said the fire was bought under control about 5am.

Fire and emergency services crews cleared the scene later today and will continue mopping up throughout the afternoon.

The Christmas period kept firefighters busy with many large-scale fires sparked by a suspected arsonist in Perth’s northern suburbs.

More than 120 incidents were reported on Christmas Eve, including a spate of deliberately-lit rubbish bin fires in the Rockingham area and two bushfires, one at a Marangaroo golf course and another at Warwick Open Space.

Both fires threatened property.

A Fire and Emergency Services Authority spokesman said the Christmas period had been extremely busy for firefighters and many career and volunteer firies had spent their Christmas Day battling blazes.
