USA — A small plane erupted into flames after crashing near Fair Bluff, but no one was seriously hurt.

The single-engine plane clipped trees while taking off Sunday from a private field about 60 miles south of Fayetteville.

State Highway Patrol Sergeant T.T. Daniels said the Cessna 172 was being piloted by William Howard Strickland of Fair Bluff. He said the plane lost power on takeoff and caught fire after it crashed.

Local fire officials said the plane was consumed by flames after the blaze spread into nearby woods.

Daniels said the Federal Aviation Administration was expected to visit the crash site Monday.
